Certified Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide – Certificate Program 2008-2009
This combined, state-regulated program provides a basic foundation of nursing skills for the care of geriatric and/or chronically ill patients and for employment as a nurse assistant in long-term care facilities. Curriculum is designed to prepare our graduates for employment in local community hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, psychiatric hospitals, home health agencies, and temporary help nursing agencies. Successful completion of the Nursing Assistant curriculum will qualify the student to sit for the state certification to be conducted on campus. Additionally, successful completion of the HHA curriculum with a “B” or better to include 20 hours of theory class and 20 hours of clinical experience at a rehabilitation unit qualifies the Certified Nurse Assistant for Home Health Aide state certification.
Pre-requisite: A TABE Basic Skills Assessment for Reading, Math, and Spelling is required, with a score of 7.5 or higher.
Requirements: Verification of current medical records, TB, required immunizations. Students must attain CNA certification prior to beginning HHA curriculum.
Duration of the combined course: 3 quarters. Class is held 3-hours-a-day, 5-days-a-week. Clinical schedule at instructor’s discretion.
