MVROP CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS 2008-2009

Mission Valley ROP offers several Certificate of Achievement programs. These programs have been designed with input from local business and industry representatives. A certificate program is a sequence of courses that provide our graduates with a portfolio of highly marketable skills. Although the courses are designed as integral parts of the entire program, they may be taken on an individual basis. Enrollees in the programs are awarded a Certificate of Achievement upon completion of the academic and attendance requirements outlined in the particular area of study.

Business Certificate Programs

Administrative Support 1

This curriculum is designed to prepare our graduates for employment in direct support positions such as customer service representatives, receptionists, and front desk coordinators.

Individual courses include:

Office Skills/Business - 1 quarter
MS Windows/Internet - 1 quarter
MS Office 1 and 2 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) – 1-2quarters
Business Math – 1 quarter
Business English – 1 quarter
Hire Image – 1 quarter

*Students must attain a keyboarding speed of 40 wpm

Accounting Clerk 1

This Accounting Certificate Program curriculum is designed to prepare our graduates for employment in entry-level accounting positions working in Payroll and Accounts Payable/Receivable.

MS Office 1 and 2 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) – 1-2quarters

Medical Certificate Programs

Medical Assisting/Administrative (front office) – Certificate Program

The following Medical Assisting Administrative and Clinical program curriculum is designed to prepare our graduates for CMA certification and employment in medical offices and clinics, urgent care clinics, dental offices, general doctor’s offices and specialty clinics.  A Basic Skills reading assessment is required to qualify for the Medical Terminology class. A comprehensive reading score of 8.0 or higher must be attained.

Medical Terminology 1 - 1 quarter
Office Skills/Medical - 1 quarter
Medical Office Management - 1 quarter
MS Office 1 (Word, Excel, Outlook) - 1 quarter
Medical Terminology 2 - 1 quarter
Medical Coding & Billing 1 & 2 (Must have completed Medical Terminology 1) - 2 quarters

*Students must attain a keyboarding speed of 35 wpm

Medical Assisting/Clinical (back office) – Certificate Program

To qualify for the Clinical Class and Internship, all required classes must be completed with a "B" or better, and a score of 10.0 or higher in a Basic Skills Assessment for Reading, Math, and Spelling.

            3rd quarter: Clinical Skills, Medical Coding & Billing 2

Certified Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide

This combined, state-regulated program provides a basic foundation of nursing skills for the care of geriatric and/or chronically ill patients and for employment as a nurse assistant in long-term care facilities.  Curriculum is designed to prepare our graduates for employment in local community hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, psychiatric hospitals, home health agencies, and temporary help nursing agencies. Successful completion of the Nursing Assistant curriculum will qualify the student to sit for the state certification to be conducted on campus. Additionally, successful completion of the HHA curriculum with a “B” or better to include 20 hours of theory class and 20 hours of clinical experience at a rehabilitation unit qualifies the Certified Nurse Assistant for Home Health Aide state certification.

Pre-requisite: A TABE Basic Skills Assessment for Reading, Math, and Spelling is required, with a score of 7.5 or higher.

Requirements: Verification of current medical records, TB, required immunizations.  Students must attain CNA certification prior to beginning HHA curriculum.

Duration of the combined course: 3 quarters. Class is held 3-hours-a-day, 5-days-a-week.  Clinical schedule at instructor’s discretion.

Acute Care Nursing Assistant

This course enables the Certified Nursing Assistant to experience the role of the Acute Care Nurse assistant.  Theory class is 40 hours and 40 hours clinical at an acute care hospital.  A certificate of completion is given upon successful completion of the theory and clinical components with a grade of “B” of better.

Requirements: Verification of current medical records, TB, required immunizations.  CNA certification, program certificate, BLS/AED certification; enrollment is subject to instructor’s approval to include interview and CNA skills demonstration.

EKG Technician Certificate Program

Students will cover basic concepts of the cardiovascular system including anatomy, physiology, and essential skills needed to operate the equipment and perform an EKG. Students will learn advanced EKG performance skills including ambulatory monitoring, stress EKG, interpretation, and clinical instruction. Successful completion of the course will qualify the student to apply for certification as an EKG Technician by the National Healthcareer Association.

Prerequisite: High school diploma or GED and must be 18 yrs. of age or older; a TABE Basic Skills assessment for reading, math and spelling is required with a score of 7.5 or higher.

Requirement: Must have a “B” or better grade in the first quarter to be eligible for internship.

Duration of the course: 2 quarters, includes internship

Pharmacy Technician Certificate Program

This program is designed to prepare our graduates to work under the supervision and direction of a pharmacy supervisor, or staff pharmacist, in keeping records of drugs, care and maintenance of equipment supplies. Successful completion will prepare students to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam.

Prerequisite: Must have a high school diploma or GED and be 18 yrs. of age or older; a TABE Basic Skills assessment for reading, math and spelling is required with a score of 8.0 or higher.

Requirement: Must maintain a “B” or better grade in the first 3-quarters to be eligible for internship.

Duration of the course: 4 quarters, includes internship.
