Arts, Media and Entertainment
Computer Animation:
Students will create video, web, and television/film animation in 2D and 3D. Adobe Aftereffects (1 quarter), Adobe Flash (1 quarter), and NewTek's Lightwave 3D (2 quarters) are all used emphasizing timelines, key frames, layers and interactivity. 3D studies include introductions to modeling, texturing, rigging, lighting, morphing, and dynamics. Class projects include story telling projects, titling banners, animated elements and special effects for video, e-cards, web animations and 3D movies. Production methods and teamwork are emphasized with project groups utilizing students from Digital Sound Design and Computer Graphics courses. Class may be completed in four quarters. This course may be taken a second year for more advanced instruction.
Computer Graphic Design 1 & 2:
Learn how to layout newsletters, articles, mailers, and posters with Adobe InDesign. Retouch photographs and create original artwork for print, web, animation, and video using Illustrator and Photoshop. Design animated presentations with Flash. Create portraits, paintings, and posters with writing tablets, flat bed scanners, color laser printers, and large image laser plotters. Production methods and teamwork are emphasized with project groups utilizing students from Digital Sound Design and Computer Animation courses. Level 1 may be completed in four quarters. This course may be taken a second year for more advanced instruction.
Digital Sound Design 1 & 2:
Learn how to use microphones, audio mixers, sound systems, and digital audio recording tools. Students will create original recordings and sound effects using synthesizers and software including; Digidesign Pro Tools, Adobe Soundbooth and Cakewalk Sonar. Live recording utilizing students and in house talent is encouraged. Production methods and teamwork are practiced with project groups utilizing students from Digital Sound Design and Computer Animation courses. Students will create their own work for projects that include Digital Storytelling, Radio Theater and Sound Design for animation and video. This course may be taken a second year for more advanced instruction.

Building Trades
Construction Technology 1 & 2:
Students will gain knowledge and experience with carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing. Instruction includes hands-on projects in new home construction. Students will be introduced to current home solar systems including hands-on projects in the application of solar cells and solar panels. Following completion of the year-long course, students will be qualified for entry-level positions in the construction field. This course may be taken a second year for more advanced instruction.

Business and Finance
Accounting Principles 1:
Learn accounting concepts, procedures, terminology and practices relating to service and merchandising businesses. Students are required to take Business Math and MS Office 1 before or concurrently with Accounting Principles 1.
Accounting Principles 2:
Students will continue to learn accounting concepts, terminology and practices related to service and merchandising businesses. Receive hands-on training through applying accounting and computer knowledge to a variety of business situations. (Prerequisite: Accounting Principles 1 and MS Office 1 must be taken before or concurrently with Accounting Principles 2). Students having a strong accounting background may take the course with instructor approval.
Applied Excel:
This advanced course provides hands-on experience in mixed cell references, working with multiple worksheets, templates, lookup and financial functions, macros, databases, and advanced formatting for business applications. Prerequisite: MS Office 1 and Ms Office 2 and Business Math.
Business Correspondence:
Compose memos, business letters, and job search correspondence. Completion of Business English or strong language skills is needed for success in this course. Articulates with Ohlone College when taken with Business English.
Business English:
Review punctuation, numbers, capitalization, grammar, and word usage as applied to business communication. Articulates with Ohlone College when taken with Business Correspondence.
Business Math:
This course covers payroll, cash receipts, taxes, interest, labor costs, inventory evaluation, and sales. Articulates with Ohlone College.
Hire Image:
Land the job of your dreams! Learn how to create a high-tech digital portfolio, master interview techniques, dress for success, practice workplace survival skills and enhance your business presentation skills. Class must be taken near program completion.
MS Office 1
Students will be introduced to the concepts and basic operational skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheet software applications along with the basic features of Outlook. This is a beginning course for students in the Business Certificate Program.
MS Office 2
Students will complete a variety of business projects utilizing advanced MS Office skills with an emphasis on program integration. Students must have completed MS Office 1 before enrolling in this course.
Office Skills/Business:
Train for office occupations using up-to-date office equipment and methods. Students will study information processing, telephone procedures and filing, communication skills, decision making and problem-solving. [back to top]
Payroll:
This course includes preparation of paychecks, deposits and payroll tax returns, identification of independent contractors, and an introduction to state and federal payroll law. Topics include employee files, payroll tables, payroll processing, employee termination, and manual adjustments. [back to top]
QuickBooks:
Designed for small businesses, QuickBooks is a complete accounting system. The software package allows the user to save time and organize their business finances.

Health Science and Medical Technology
Medical Assisting – Certificate Program 2009-2010
Medical assistants enjoy a very stable position in one of the fastest growing occupations in the health care industry. Medical assistants help with the daily duties of a medical office. In smaller offices, medical assistants often perform clinical and administrative work. In larger medical facilities, medical assistants may specialize in administrative or clinical tasks.
Certified Nursing Assistant – Certificate Program 2009-2010
This combined, state-regulated program provides a basic foundation of nursing skills for the care of geriatric and/or chronically ill patients and for employment as a nurse assistant in long-term care facilities. Curriculum is designed to prepare our graduates for employment in local community hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, psychiatric hospitals, home health agencies, and temporary help nursing agencies. Successful completion of the Nursing Assistant curriculum will qualify the student to sit for the state certification to be conducted on campus.
Pharmacy Technician - Certificate Program 2009-2010
This program is designed to prepare our graduates to work under the supervision and direction of a pharmacy supervisor, or staff pharmacist, in keeping records of drugs, care and maintenance of equipment supplies. Successful completion will prepare students to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam.
EKG Technician Certificate Program 2009-2010
Students will cover basic concepts of the cardiovascular system including anatomy, physiology, and essential skills needed to operate the equipment and perform an EKG. Students will learn advanced EKG performance skills including ambulatory monitoring, stress EKG, interpretation, and clinical instruction. Successful completion of the course will qualify the student to apply for certification as an EKG Technician by the National Healthcareer Association.

Transportation Technology
Auto Body/Painting and Refinishing 1 & 2:
Learn to identify and use materials, tools, and equipment. The course includes welding and auto body work with an emphasis on custom refinishing. This course may be taken a second year for more advanced instruction. (The course may include a lab fee and/or special project fee.) |
