This course provides training for students interested in animal related careers, particularly veterinary medicine and veterinary technology. After completing the course, students will have the skills necessary for employment in veterinary clinics, and/or pet shops, grooming facilities, animal shelters, and kennels. First semester is spent in the classroom and laboratory learning terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, laboratory techniques, animal restraint, veterinary nursing, grooming, front office skills and basic work skills. On-the-job training is available during second semester in an animal care facility. (Students must provide their own transportation for on-the-job training.) It is strongly recommended that enrolling students have successfully completed courses in Biology and Algebra I. (Advanced placement is available in Foothill College’s Veterinary Technician Program.)
