February 3, 2009 PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT FREMONT, CA- Mission Valley ROP is teaming up with the Fremont Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service, and Adin Fire Protection District to train students in an all-day exercise which will demonstrate the life of a wildland firefighter and the basic skills necessary to fight wildland fires. On Friday, February 6th from 7:20am to 2:30pm, the three fire agencies will be on the Kennedy High School track, located off of Farwell Drive, doing simulated wildland fire suppression skills, such as handline construction, hose lays and mobile attacks. “These are some of the basic skills of wildland firefighting that all the students will be exposed to at a young age,” stated Tom Marovich, a firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service. This collaborative training will serve as valuable hands-on experience for students, which is an integral part of Career Technical Education within all Mission Valley ROP classes. Combined with the skills that are taught in the classroom, students are able to leave Mission Valley ROP with real life experience that can benefit them for a lifetime.
