Arts, Media and Entertainment Technology
Computer Animation 
Students will create video, web, and television/film animation in 2D and 3D. Adobe Aftereffects, Macromedia Flash, and New Teks Lightwave 3D are all used emphasizing timelines, key frames, layers and interactivity. Class projects include the virtual of video backgrounds and titling banners, animated elements and special effects for video, e-cards, web animations and 3D movies. Class may be completed in 4 quarters.

Computer Graphic Design 1 & 2 
Learn how to layout newsletters, articles, mailers, and posters with Adobe InDesign. Retouch photographs and create original artwork for print, web, animation, and video using Illustrator and Photoshop. Design animated presentations with Flash. Create portraits, paintings, and posters with school supplied writing tablets, flat bed scanners, color laser printers, and large image laser plotters. Level 1 may be completed in 4 quarters. This course may be taken a second year for more advanced instruction.

Digital Sound Design 1 & 2 
Learn how to use microphones, audio mixers, sound systems, and digital audio recording tools. Students will create original recordings and sound effects using school supplied synthesizers and software such as Fruity Loops, Adobe Audition and Cakewalk Sonar. Live recording utilizing students and in house talent is emphasized. Students are encouraged to create their own work for projects that include Digital Storytelling, Radio Theater and Sound Design for animation and video.

Building Trades
Construction Technology 1 & 2 
Students will gain knowledge and experience with carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing. Instruction includes hands-on projects in new home construction. Following completion of the year-long course, students will be qualified for entry-level positions in the construction field. This course may be taken a second year for more advanced instruction.

Business and Finance
Accounting Principles 1 
Learn accounting concepts, procedures, terminology and practices relating to service and merchandising businesses. Students are required to take Business Math and MS Office 1 before or concurrently with Accounting Principles 1.
Accounting Principles 2 
Students will continue to learn accounting concepts, terminology and practices related to service and merchandising businesses. Receive hands-on training through applying accounting and computer knowledge to a variety of business situations. (Prerequisite: Accounting Principles 1 and MS Office 1 must be taken before or concurrently with Accounting Principles 2). Students having a strong accounting background may take the course with instructor approval.
Business English 
Review punctuation, numbers, capitalization, grammar, and word usage as applied to business communication. Articulates with Ohlone College when taken with Business Correspondence.
Business Math 
This course covers payroll, cash receipts, taxes, interest, labor costs, inventory evaluation, and sales. Articulates with Ohlone College must see instructor for details.
Hire Image 
Land the job of your dreams! Learn how to create a high-tech digital portfolio, master interview techniques, dress for success, practice workplace survival skills and enhance your business presentation skills. Class must be taken near program completion.
MS Office 
(Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) - Students will be introduced to the concepts and basic operational skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling, presentation, and data base management skills. Students will complete a variety of business projects with an emphasis on program integration
Office Skills/Business 
Train for office occupations using up-to-date office equipment and methods. Students will study information processing, telephone procedures and filing, communication skills, decision making and problem-solving.
Quickbooks 
Designed for small businesses, QuickBooks is a complete accounting system. The software package allows the user to save time and organize their business finances.
Health Science and Medical Technology
Medical Assisting - Certificate Program 2009-2010 
Medical assistants enjoy a very stable position in one of the fastest growing occupations in the health care industry. Medical assistants help with the daily duties of a medical office. In smaller offices, medical assistants often perform clinical and administrative work. In larger medical facilities, medical assistants may specialize in administrative or clinical tasks.
Prerequisite: A Basic Skills Assessment (TABE) for reading, math, and spelling is required with a score of 10.0 or higher. Mandatory orientation will be given prior to the start of class. Dates and times will be posted on our website. The following immunizations are required (more details given at orientation):
- Hepatitis B - 3 shot series – first two must be done before internship
- MMR- 2 shot series 1 month apart
- Chickenpox - 2 shot series 1month apart
- TB shots - 1 shot taken in two consecutive years if negative, 1 shot + x-ray if the shot is positive
- Flu - may be declined
Requirement: Must have a “B” or better grade in the first quarter to be eligible for internship.
Duration of the course: 2 quarters, includes internship
Course Description: This is a two-quarter course. Class is held 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. Students will learn the skills necessary to obtain an entry-level front and back office medical assisting position in doctors’ offices, clinics, hospitals, and other health care facilities. Students learn medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, medical law and ethics, office administrative skills, and general workplace skills.
During the second quarter, students will be placed in medical facilities to gain “on-the-job” training. Students receive up to 130 hours of internship. Medical assistants provide direct patient care, and perform clerical office duties:
- Update patients’ records
- American Heart CPR
- Coordinate patient lab or hospital visits
- Telephone prescriptions and refill orders to the pharmacy
- Complete insurance forms, schedule appointments
- Sterilize surgical instruments
- Perform medical billing and bookkeeping tasks
- Assist with minor surgery
- Take vital signs of patients
- Demonstrate an understanding of appropriate and effective application of legal and ethical standards of practice
- Prepare patients for and assist the physician during examinations
- Understand, demonstrate, and continuously utilize the principles of medical asepsis and standard precautions, as well as other safety precautions
- Administration of medication and injections
- Apply knowledge and skills of various clinical procedures such as vitals, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic and medical procedures.
- Phlebotomy
- Demonstrate working knowledge of the human body including structure, function, and basic pathologies
- Remove sutures and dress wounds
Certified Nursing Assistant – Certificate Program 2009-2010 
This combined, state-regulated program provides a basic foundation of nursing skills for the care of geriatric and/or chronically ill patients and for employment as a nurse assistant in long-term care facilities. Curriculum is designed to prepare our graduates for employment in local community hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, psychiatric hospitals, home health agencies, and temporary help nursing agencies. Successful completion of the Nursing Assistant curriculum will qualify the student to sit for the state certification to be conducted on campus.
Pre-requisite: A TABE Basic Skills Assessment for Reading, Math, and Spelling is required, with a score of 7.5 or higher.
Requirements: Verification of current medical records, TB, required immunizations. Fingerprint and background clearance required by State Department of Health Services.
Duration of the combined course: 2 quarters. Class is held 2-hours-a-day, 5-days-a-week. Clinical schedule at instructor’s discretion.

Pharmacy Technician - Certificate Program 2009-2010 
This program is designed to prepare our graduates to work under the supervision and direction of a pharmacy supervisor, or staff pharmacist, in keeping records of drugs, care and maintenance of equipment supplies. Successful completion will prepare students to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam.
Prerequisite: Must have a high school diploma or GED and be 18 yrs. of age or older; a TABE Basic Skills assessment for reading, math and spelling is required with a score of 8.0 or higher.
Requirement: Must maintain a “B” or better grade in the first 3-quarters to be eligible for internship.
Duration of the course: 4 quarters, includes internship.
EKG Technician Certificate Program 2009-2010 
Students will cover basic concepts of the cardiovascular system including anatomy, physiology, and essential skills needed to operate the equipment and perform an EKG. Students will learn advanced EKG performance skills including ambulatory monitoring, stress EKG, interpretation, and clinical instruction. Successful completion of the course will qualify the student to apply for certification as an EKG Technician by the National Healthcareer Association.

Public Service
EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) 
Emergency Medical Technicians provide routine and emergency medical care with an
ambulance service or fire department, as well as in hospitals and clinics. Becoming an EMT is
the first step towards becoming a paramedic. The program taught by instructors from the San Francisco Paramedic Association will prepare you to identify and manage the basic care of victims of trauma and sudden illness. This course consists of both classroom and skills training, as well as clinical observation. Students who complete the program are eligible to sit for the national certifying examination.
Requirements: High school diploma or GED; clean background check; and professional CPR
certification to include either American Heart Association Healthcare Provider, American Red
Cross Professional Rescuer, or equivalent. Must attend orientation prior to first day of class.
Students must pass the TABE Basic Skills Test assessment for reading, math, and spelling with a 10.0 or better prior to registration.

Transportation Technology
Auto Body/Painting and Refinishing 1 & 2 
Learn to identify and use materials, tools, and equipment. The course includes welding and auto body work with an emphasis on custom refinishing. This course may be taken a second year for more advanced instruction. (The course may include a lab fee and/or special project fee.)
